Ledger® Live — Login & Getting Started
A step-by-step, presentation-style guide with headings H1 → H5, official links, and security best practices.
Overview
Ledger Live is the official desktop & mobile application to manage your Ledger hardware wallet, monitor your portfolio, and securely sign transactions. This guide walks you through download, install, initial setup (new device or restore), login/unlock, adding accounts, and a short security checklist.
What you'll need
- Ledger hardware device (Nano S Plus, Nano X, etc.)
- USB cable (or Bluetooth for Nano X)
- Computer or smartphone (Windows / macOS / Linux / iOS / Android)
- Your 24-word recovery phrase (only if restoring — never share it)
Download & Install (Quick)
Important: Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger site or official app stores. Never enter your recovery phrase into any app or website. The code snippet below shows a short checklist before running the installer.
Quick checklist before install (H4)
- Confirm you are on ledger.com/ledger-live.
- Verify downloads with Ledger signatures if available.
- Disconnect other USB crypto devices and close wallets during install.
Install steps (H3)
- Open the official Ledger Live download page, choose your OS, and download the installer.
- Run the installer and follow on-screen instructions.
- Open Ledger Live and choose Get started to begin device setup or restore flow.
Set up your device & Login (H2)
Option A — New device
Follow on-screen steps in Ledger Live to initialize your device. Choose a PIN on the device and write down the 24-word recovery phrase on the supplied paper. Keep that paper safe and offline.
Option B — Restore from a recovery phrase
Choose Restore device in Ledger Live and enter your recovery phrase only on the device when prompted (not in the app). This will recreate your accounts and allow Ledger Live to display them.
Unlocking / Logging in (H5)
Ledger Live itself does not require an email login. You unlock access to accounts by connecting and unlocking your Ledger hardware (enter PIN on device). For mobile, pair via Bluetooth (Nano X) or USB-OTG (supported devices).
Adding Accounts & Managing Crypto
Once your device is unlocked, use Ledger Live to install coin apps on the device (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum), then add accounts to view balances and history. You can send/receive, buy/swap, stake (where supported), and use DeFi apps through the app’s integrations.
Common tasks
- Add account: Ledger Live → Accounts → Add account → follow prompts.
- Send crypto: Prepare transaction in Ledger Live → Confirm on device.
- Receive crypto: Use an account receive address and verify on-device.
Security Best Practices (H2)
Never: type or share your recovery phrase anywhere. Ledger will never ask for it via email, app, or website. If anything asks for your seed phrase, it is a scam.
Quick security checklist (H3)
- Download only from ledger.com or official app stores.
- Use the Ledger download signatures page to verify installers when possible.
- Keep firmware & Ledger Live up to date via official updates only.
- Never trust unsolicited emails, popups, or social media links asking for seed phrases.
Troubleshooting & Support
If your device is not recognized, try a different USB cable/port, restart your computer, or check the Support pages. Ledger Support provides step-by-step help for device types and OS-specific issues.
